Crantock Beach is located to the south west of Newquay in Cornwall. The tidal River Gannel runs into northern end of the beach and when the tides are ebbing or flowing, this gives rise to treacherous currents for unwary surfers and bathers. It also provides one of the best longboard peaks on this coast when conditions are right. A smaller shortboard break, known as the 'Bowgie Left' sometimes works just below the Bowgie Inn at West Pentire.
